The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, has officially launched the AgroFuer initiative aimed at revitalizing the island’s interior economy while integrating it with the tourism sector. This initiative, part of the 'Fuerte por Naturaleza' program backed by the European Union's Next Generation EU funds, has a budget of €115,000. It intends to create synergies between local producers and consumers through various activities, including a significant fair promoting 'kilometer zero' products and traditional craftsmanship workshops.

Marlene Figueroa, the island’s Tourism Councillor, highlighted that tourism plays a crucial role in generating employment and wealth in the area. She stated, "well-understood tourism generates jobs and acts as a driving force for local economies." The AgroFuer initiative specifically targets the interior regions of the island, where producers have often missed out on tourism benefits.

In addition to the fair, the initiative will include workshops led by local artisans, aimed at preserving and promoting traditional crafts and ensuring knowledge transfer. Figueroa emphasized that one of the primary goals of AgroFuer is to ensure a more equitable distribution of the economic benefits derived from tourism across Fuerteventura, thus supporting the primary sector and enhancing local consumption.
