Cantabria's President María José Sáenz de Buruaga has issued a call for political unity, goodwill, and a return to a "sense of region" in her Christmas message, emphasizing that a divided community cannot move forward. Speaking from Hospital Valdecilla, a symbol of regional excellence and progress completed under her government, Buruaga highlighted impressive advancements since taking office in July 2023. These include record employment figures, leadership in business creation and sustainable tourism, and improvements in public services such as reduced healthcare waiting lists and enhanced education outcomes.

Buruaga outlined ambitious upcoming projects like a €3.6 billion technology campus and investments in cultural infrastructure, while also addressing key challenges in housing with tax reductions, increased aid, and protective legislation.

Echoing the president’s message, Juan José Alonso, PP's general coordinator and parliamentary spokesperson, stressed the need to overcome partisan deadlock to fully harness Cantabria’s potential. Alonso praised the PP government’s efforts in bolstering public services, supporting the primary sector, and fostering an attractive business environment. He expressed hope that the positive transformation in Cantabria could inspire a more effective and respectful national government.

Buruaga also called on the national government to respect Cantabria’s needs, particularly in infrastructure development. She concluded with wishes for a hopeful Christmas and a prosperous 2026, envisioning sustained regional growth under the leadership of the Partido Popular.
