Catalonia is significantly ramping up its financial commitment to the circular economy with an additional investment of €4.325 million in 2025, as announced by the Waste Agency of Catalonia. This funding surge is aimed at promoting sustainability efforts across various sectors and underscores the region's dedication to innovative waste management practices.
The strategic aid will bolster three key areas: boosting business projects focused on the circular economy, enhancing the use of recycled materials in public works, and improving processes in waste treatment plants. Notably, the budget allocated for business projects promoting the circular economy is set to experience a major increase from €1.7 million to €3.7 million, thanks to a supplementary €2 million drawn from the Industrial Waste Management Fund. This rise is attributed to the high volume of quality proposals submitted—a record 259 applications were received by the March deadline, all aiming to innovate in waste reduction and material reuse.
In addition to the support for business projects, an extra €325,000 has been earmarked specifically for the use of CE-marked recycled aggregates in public works. This allocation raises the total investment for that initiative to €3.325 million. Furthermore, funding for enhancing processes at waste treatment plants will also see a doubling, bringing it to a total of €4 million for the upcoming year.
Applications for this funding will remain open until October 4, 2025, as published in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC). By investing heavily in these initiatives, Catalonia aims not only to foster an environmentally friendly economy but also to embrace innovative practices that can serve as a model for other regions.
