Key details
As fall commences, Marchamalo is experiencing an unprecedented increase in sports participation, with nearly 3,500 registrations this season, a record for the municipality. This surge is largely credited to recent enhancements made to local sports facilities, including significant renovations and the introduction of new activities. The Garcia Fraguas Sports Complex has been reorganized, new changing facilities have been built at the Llanos Manrique Complex, and artificial turf has replaced natural grass at the La Solana Football Complex. These upgrades have contributed to a spike in youth engagement, highlighted by the municipal football school’s membership growth to 270 children, prompting the formation of a new girls' team.
Mayor Rafael Esteban expressed pride in the high level of sports participation in Marchamalo, which has a population of around 9,000 residents. The increase encompasses diverse activities, with 857 children enrolled across 18 sports disciplines offered by the Municipal Sports Schools, along with 1,428 adults participating in various programs. Additionally, 1,202 individuals have utilized the García Fraguas Pool under the 'Nadar es Vida' initiative. Esteban emphasized that the town's affordability and variety of sports options make it a leading destination for recreational activities.
Meanwhile, the local government has also initiated a grant program to support sports clubs and entities, allocating €65,000 for promoting sports in 2025. Applications for these grants are open until October 27, allowing clubs to seek funding for their initiatives, further enhancing the local sports environment.
