Pedro Sánchez, the President of Spain, has begun his vacation at La Mareta, an official residence situated in Lanzarote, popular for its political history and beautiful setting. This marks the latest retreat for Sánchez, who has spent vacations at La Mareta since 2020.

La Mareta boasts a rich background; it was originally constructed in the 1970s for King Hussein of Jordan and later gifted to King Juan Carlos I. The residence, designed by architect Fernando Higueras with input from artist César Manrique, covers an impressive area of 30,000 m², including 1,900 m² of built space that features luxurious amenities such as ten independent bungalows, two swimming pools, and sports courts.

Access to the estate, which overlooks the scenic Lanzarote coastline, is highly regulated, limited to institutional or diplomatic purposes as per agreements between Patrimonio Nacional and the Ministry of Tourism. This year, Sánchez’s stay is marked by heightened security measures in response to previous incidents that raised concerns over his safety, despite some local opposition to the president's use of the property.
