Santander and Jerez are undertaking significant investments to modernize and restore sports facilities in preparation for 2026, aiming to enhance local sports infrastructure and community engagement.

In Santander, the Institute of Sports (IMD) approved a 13.4 million euro budget for 2026, marking a 2% increase from 2025. Approximately 1.2 million euros are designated for modernizing sports venues and acquiring new equipment, focusing on tennis court covers, perimeter fencing for outdoor pools, and crucial renovations at the Vicente Miera football field. This stadium renovation, budgeted at 693,000 euros, includes installation of new generation artificial turf, improved irrigation and drainage, upgraded lighting, and enhanced changing rooms, with completion expected within three months. The city also plans to host prominent sporting events like the Copa de España in judo and the 'Ciudad de Santander' triathlon, which are projected to boost the local economy in hospitality, retail, and job creation.

Meanwhile, in Jerez, the City Council has initiated restoration of approximately 300 meters of the deteriorated perimeter wall of the Pedro S. Garrido football field on Avenida Blas Infante. The project involves removing damaged plaster, repairing surfaces, and applying a fresh acrylic paint coat to revitalize the area’s appearance. Complementary urban upgrades include new public waste containers and modernized bus stops, contributing to improved public services. Mayor María José García-Pelayo has pledged to complete painting of stadium facilities by year-end. Further renovations planned for early 2026 include enhancements to the club's social headquarters and additional stadium upgrades such as a dedicated training area.

These investments reflect a strategic effort by municipalities to maintain and improve sports infrastructure, foster community engagement, and support local sports clubs ahead of a busy year marked by special sporting events and anniversaries.
