Santander Secures Over €4 Million in European Funds for Sustainable Urban Development

Santander City Council has successfully obtained more than 4 million euros from the European FEDER funds to support sustainable urban development projects as part of the 2021-2027 programming period. This funding, officially confirmed by the General Directorate of European Funds at the Ministry of Finance, will back Santander’s Integrated Action Plan aligned with the Sustainable Integrated Territorial Strategy Santander 2030.

Councilor for Economy Javier García Ruiz highlighted that the funding validates the municipality’s technical expertise and management capacity, reflecting Santander's excellence in a competitive selection that saw 379 applications from across Spain. The total investment mobilized will exceed 6.7 million euros, complemented by municipal contributions.

The allocated funds will focus on initiatives to improve urban sustainability, mobility, innovation, technological advancement, and social development, closely aligned with both EU priorities and the city’s long-term strategies for a more sustainable, cohesive, and competitive urban model. Since 2021, Santander has attracted over 41 million euros in European funds, enabling diverse projects to enhance quality of life and urban efficiency.

The Council has also committed to rigorous management and control of these funds to ensure effective execution and adherence to regulatory frameworks. Santander continues to leverage European resources to foster a balanced and innovative urban environment for its citizens.
