Spanish Government Reaffirms Strong Financial Support to Enhance Federative Sports Model

Milagros Tolón, Spain's Minister of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports, has reaffirmed the government's firm commitment to strengthening the federative model in Spanish sports. During a meeting with Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), and leaders of sports federations, Tolón highlighted the crucial role of these federations in identifying and nurturing talent from an early age to elite performance levels.

Since 2018, the Spanish government has mobilized 800 million euros to support the federative system, with over 140 million euros allocated in 2025 alone—almost double the funding available in 2018. The Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) budget reached 321 million euros last year, reflecting sustained and historic investment under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's administration.

Tolón emphasized that sports federations are essential pillars for promoting Spain internationally and advancing public policies such as gender equality, noting that women now represent over 40% of sports federation boards for the first time in the past decade. Additionally, 23 federations have successfully integrated athletes with disabilities, further demonstrating inclusive progress.

The minister also announced the creation of the Executive Committee for Spanish Sports, a new strategic decision-making body involving the CSD, COE, and the Spanish Paralympic Committee, facilitating coordinated governance in the sector. She underscored the government's vision to establish sports as a true state policy supported by stable, sustained investment and cooperation, recognizing its broad impact on economic growth, health, employment, and social cohesion.
