The Cabildo de Tenerife has made a significant step forward in the development of the Centro Insular de Deportes Marinos de Tenerife by requesting 11,500 square meters from the Port Authority. This upcoming facility, also known as Cidemat, is slated to occupy the same site as its predecessor, which has been closed since March 2020 due to deterioration.
The proposed design includes 6,669.7 square meters of land and an additional 4,845.5 square meters dedicated to marine sports activities and education, along with a café that will serve both users and the public. This formal request was published in the Boletín Oficial de la Provincia, launching a 20-day public exposure period to allow stakeholders to review the proposal and provide feedback.
Insular Sports Councillor Yolanda Moliné noted that this request illustrates substantial progress after months of information gathering from the Port Authority. Although initial plans projected a construction award this year, delays in administrative procedures have pushed timelines back. The expected budget for the project stands at 6.5 million euros, with construction anticipated to take about 21 months from the contract award. Santa Cruz's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, praised the Cabildo's efforts, emphasizing the necessity of revitalizing the marine sports center for community engagement and activities.
