Pedro Sánchez Unveils 'España Crece' Sovereign Fund at Dubai's World Government Summit

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez presented the new 'España Crece' sovereign fund during the 2026 World Government Summit held in Dubai, UAE. This strategic initiative is designed to succeed the European recovery funds 'Next Generation,' which end this year, aiming to drive Spain's economic transformation through targeted investments.

The fund anchors €10.5 billion in public capital, aiming to mobilize a total of €120 billion by attracting private debt and investments from both national and international sources. Its investment focus spans critical sectors including housing, energy, digitalization, artificial intelligence, reindustrialization, circular economy, infrastructure, water and sanitation, and security. These areas align with Spain's vision to harness innovation and technology to foster sustainable growth.

During the summit themed "Shaping Future Governments," Sánchez engaged in high-profile discussions, including a meeting with UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The forum also hosted other world leaders such as the presidents of Switzerland, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Sierra Leone, alongside IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

Spain also aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the UAE and plans to renew a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022 related to digital governance and good governance. This engagement underlines the government's commitment to international collaboration as part of its broader economic diplomacy.

The 'España Crece' fund is part of Spain's broader strategy to ensure a robust and innovative economic future following the pandemic recovery phase, signaling a transition towards sustainable development and technological advancement. Sánchez emphasized that this sovereign fund will be instrumental in leveraging significant private sector participation to drive national growth beyond 2026.
